PHP 8.4, SOGo, 2FA and other new features

 

In this spring newsletter, we are pleased to announce new features in our service that are available to our customers free of charge. As a cherry on the cake, we are also starting a small spring sale (found at the end of the newsletter)

 

PHP 8.4

Our customers can choose the PHP version by themselves from the selection we offer. The latest PHP 8.4 has been avalable on our servers for a few weeks now. Older versions 8.3, 8.2, 8.1, 8.0 and 7.4 are still available too, but we recommend using the latest compatible PHP for both security and optimal performance.

 

You can easily change the PHP version in your hosting plan by following our instructions.

 

WordPress is generally compatible with the latest PHP 8.4, but you may have to use an older version with some incompatible plugins or themes. It is worth testing the functionality of the site. If compatibility problems arise, the PHP version can also be easily changed back to the previous version via our control panel.

 

We also continue to remind you of the importance of WordPress security updates. Before switchhing to the latest PHP version, it is also worth updating your WordPress website according to our instructions (including creating a restore point, unless you are not using Smart Updates).

 

New SOGo webmail

 

We have been testing the new SOGo webmail platform for some time now, and now it is freely available to all our customers. The old Roundcube webmail is not going away, but it is possible to use the even more modern SOGo webmail alongside it.

 

SOGo also offers caledar support with sharing and other additional features and is and excellent addition to schedule management. Instructions for using SOGo can be found on our support pages.

 

2FA - two-factor authentication

It is now possible to improve the login security into our Plesk control panel by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA). This can be done from your Plesk control panel in your own profile. You will also need a code application on your phone (for example Google Authenticator)

Nextcloud - coming soon!

 

Hostaan Ltd is constantly developing new services that benefit our customers. We will soon be announcing, among other things, the cloud-based managed Hostaan Nextcloud platform aimed at small businesses. This will be an excellent and cost-effective alternative to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.

The service will be physically located in Finland and subject to GDPR legislation, which enables more secure management of corporate date in a world unregoing intese global change.

It is worth staying tuned for this! We will provide more information later when the service is available. Also a launch sale will follow to our customers!

 

WP 10 spring campaign!

 

As spring approaches, we decided to offer all our new and existing customers a small spring discount on our WordPress plans: WP 10 now -50% for the first 6 months.

 

The offer is valid until 31.7.2025 and the discount is calculated directly at checkout.

 

Did you order the WP 10 plan before the campaign? Don't worry! We also want to remember our existing customers and if you have ordered the WP 10 plan during 2025, we will upgrade it to the WP 15 package for free for the rest of the season (max 12 months).
